Educational Blogging

Educational blogging is a unique way to have students analyze a topic in depth and share what they learned through their own words. This practice is beneficial to others as it is an effective way to share information while learning about new topics. It practices paying attention to detail when forming a blog post, including certain credentials necessary to make a blog post, while incorporating the information that was wanting to be expressed. The popularity of blogs is spreading throughout the education system, being used as peer reviewed assignments, group projects or collaborated assignments. Benefits of educational blogging for students includes promoting self-expression, developing analytical thinking, and exercising their own creativity.

It was interesting to browse my classmates blogs and reading their perspective on various topics I have also written about. The three classmates blog posts I am discussing in this blog were Cat Dillards, Bree Dignan, and Brilee Culbert. In Cat Dillards blog, she discusses the purpose of educational blogs and how they can benefit students. She stated that it aids students in expressing themselves, in which I agree with her statement. Bree's blog post I chose to include was her first post about the impact of family factors on a student and how it can effect their education, positively or negatively. Brilee's blog post discussed how Agriculture-based programs offered to students, such as 4-H and FFA, are helpful in which they teach agricultural related topics like animal science, plant science, and natural resources.

From my short experience blogging, I felt it was a special way to incorporate writing and creativity in class assignments. It was a way where I was able easily organize my work, learn how to set up a blog and how to manage it. I felt providing my classmates blogs to view was a great way to connect the class, especially for an online group.

School Safety

When entering the education system, whether it be a public or private institution, it is important to be knowledgable of school safety and what that entails. School should be a safe place for your child to go to as they develop their education, make friends, find new hobbies, and grow as an individual from Kindergarten to 12th grade. In this blog post, I am going to discuss specifically targeted violence within the education system and how to take proper precautions in order to feel confident about you and your child's safety at school. Targeted violence is "violence that is premeditated and directed at a specific individuals, groups, or locations." This means that this type of violence tends to not be random or spontaneous and is planned, either by one specific person or a group of people can cause violence on others. This can be due to personal reasons or the want to create chaos. One way to prevent targeted violence is to bring this to the school's staff team and confront the issue up front and not to allow it to happen again. Bringing awareness of the problem to the school's attendees can help reduce and stop the violence and punish those who are a threat to others. Staff would identify the issue at hand, assess the individuals involved, and intervene with those who are dangerous to others.

I have not personally dealt with targeted violence but I am aware of other individuals and how their situations may be different. I think it is important to bring awareness to targeted violence as it is a huge factor in school safety and setting up a student for success. When the students are able to attend school and receive an education without being targeted, it brings a better quality of life, education, and growth in skills and development. I hope this blog post shared useful information about school safety, specifically targeted violence and what preventions to take to handle any harmful threats or actions.
